They built up a little platform on tree to sleep, so they could be safe from wild animals at night. They finished their platform before the dark. When night arrived, they tried to comfort each other and eventually went to sleep. Around midnight, their sleep has been disturbed by rustling and thumping sounds underneath their platform. Both of them, awaken by now, tried to fix their eyes to see what is making all those noises. It was pitch black so they could not see anything. After few minutes, Maya got irritated and said, “Go away…” As soon as she said her words, the noises became louder. The rustling and thumping sounds are now accompanied by growling. Dinesh and Maya were not expecting that. They thought that might be a night predator looking for its prey.
Some time passed, the thing
underneath their platform now came into a form of rage and fury. It started to
knock the tree to make both of them fall to the ground. Dinesh and Maya were now scared to
death, thinking that they have accidently attracted a bear or something. So
they decided to keep quiet. Cuddling each other, they waited for the
commotion to stop. But instead of ending, it increased in an insane way. Both
of them didn’t have any idea what to do, so they started sobbing.
The thing underneath them was desperate
to make them fall by shaking the tree. But they somehow managed to hold tight.
In a frightened tone, Dinesh said, “What do you want from us?” They heard a
raspy voice saying, “YOUR SOULS!!!” A chill ran down their spines and their
bodies became insanely numb like they were paralyzed. The commotion continued
throughout the night until it became dawn. The shaking and growling was over by
then. For several minutes, Dinesh and Maya were sitting on their platform,
cuddling each other and shaking with fear. After some time, they gathered some
courage and got down on the earth. They found no one but just two of them in
the woods.
They saw the scratches and dents on the tree right beneath their platform and marks of hooves on the earth. They decided to leave the place as soon as possible. They packed their belongings and moved from the sight. After walking for few hours, they managed to find a town where they could stay for a while and call for help. As soon as they met the residents of the town they started to share their experience from previous night. After listening their story, an elderly woman said, “Did you say you saw the marks of the hooves?” "Yes, that’s what they looked like...” Maya replied. “And the thing asked for your souls?” The woman asked again. Dinesh said, “Yes it did!”
A creepy silence spread among the people around. Confused, Dinesh and Maya began to ask, “What’s the matter? Why did you ask that?” The woman said, “My child, you don’t even have a slightest idea what you had gone through. The thing which was trying to make you fall from the tree was none other than the devil himself. The marks of the hooves you saw on the ground were the original form of the devil; that’s ram! ”
