The Tunnel

The Tunnel

There was a rumor in the town that the tunnel near the old railway track is haunted. There were two friends named Jay and Ankita; who were best friends since first standard. Jay was more fun and adventure loving guy; he was curious about the tunnel and wanted to explore and find out the truth about that rumour. One day, he said to Ankita,

“Why don’t we see ourselves what’s inside of it? What can possibly be there?”

Ankita was a little nervous and didn’t want to go with him. She said, "Are you serious? There must be something bad in that tunnel. That's why everyone denies to go there. Besides, it is strictly prohibited to go near there. Are you sure you want to do it?”

Jay was desperate to go there and explore the the tunnel; and he definitely didn't want to go alone. So he tried to convince Ankita with all his best. After a long time of convincing, she finally agreed to go with him.

Both of them decided to go to the tunnel that day. It was already past evening, and was about to get dark any time. Ankita began to worry; Jay noticed the anxiety on her face and said, “Come on! It’s not going to be that hard. You can hold my hand if you're feeling uneasy.” She grabbed his hand and they headed towards the tunnel opening.

The plan was to reach to the other end of the tunnel, hoping to see something scary. They entered to the tunnel with holding each other’s hands. Jay was a little nervous too, but he was so curious to explore that he wiped out the fear from his mind. They were moving slowly towards the other end of the tunnel.

Ankita was quiet all that time. Jay asked her, “Are you still scared?” She didn’t reply. He said again, “We are almost there, so don’t be scared. We’ll be out very soon.” She replied, ”Umm Hmm..”.  After few minutes they almost reached to the other end of the tunnel. It was too dark outside that it was hard to tell whether the tunnel really ended. Right when they were about to get out; Jay said, “That was a disappointment! I didn’t see anything weird. What do you say Ankita? Did you see anything?”

Just at the very next moment; he heard a low, raspy voice, “I’M NOT ANKITA!”
